So I didn't make Law Review or Law Journal heading into my 2L year.  Does this put me in a really bad position?  They absolutely drill into our heads that employers mostly require one or the other.

Gwiz was being sarcastic, but there is some truth in his post.  If you want Biglaw, and you're not at a Top 25 school or in the top 10% of your class, you ain't gettin' it.  And forget about a federal clerkship.

Not true.  I personally know someone who is only top 25%, no journal, no moot court, no mock trial at 30-40 ranked school who got a six figure biglaw job in a smaller market.  Granted, it's not NYC or Chicago or LA, but it pays 100,000 a year.

Where do you go to school?  Lots of people at t14s get jobs without law review.

100k is not considered BIGLAW. You'd have to be making at least 145k.

While I agree that 100k is not BIGLAW, 145k seems a little arbitrary.  Jones Day/Foley & Lardner are certainly BIGLAW, but their midwestern offices are currently at 135k.  On the other hand, NY/DC/Houston/LA are all at 160k now.

Ad is right.  "At least" 145k is not BIGLAW.  Even BIGLAW scales for the market in which each office is located, and some major markets, namely Atlanta, is not yet at $145.

Well, you actually named the employer, so she must be getting $135,000.  I am not a firm person, so I guess I was off on the salary amount.

Though atlanta is going to $145K on 1/1/08, if not before. You heard it here first- Atlanta's regional rvault ankings will be all shook up this coming year: some of the big players haven't yet raised...
