Anyone want to get a place?
« on: June 07, 2007, 12:51:16 PM »
Ok, I'm going to put this out there & see what happens. I'm looking to get a place somewhere in an area close to restaurants, shops, & nightlife that is convenient to Center City & Temple through SEPTA. So far I've been looking at all the areas around Center City, South Philly, and the Manayunk/East Falls area. Living alone is going to be pretty expensive, so I'd like to find a roommate (or two) if possible, but I am somewhat hesitant about living with strange people whose company I may not enjoy.

Hereís what Iím looking for in the place: ideally rent+utilities would be around $800 but Iím flexible, wood floors (I friggin hate carpet), a decent kitchen cuz I like to cook, access to SEPTA & grocery, internet access, a nice porch/balcony or yard, not bug infested & filthy, perhaps some sort of breakfast nook??? Iíve found Manayunk/East Falls to have some good places that offer all of this.

About Me: New to the Philly area from New Mexico < Oregon < Kansas City. 27 years old with a B.A. in anthropology/psychology & an M.A. in political science. My girlfriend will be attending medical school at Penn State so she (and our extremely well-behaved dog) will be visiting every now-and-again and I will be visiting her on some weekends as well. I enjoy the following activities: brewing/drinking beer, racquetball, softball, reading, watching some sports (MLB, college B-ball, & football), cooking & food, compiling & listening to music, some video games now-and-again, outdoor-type things, writing, & hopefully the study of law. Iím currently employed full-time, I take studying seriously and remain pretty quiet during the week. When I have the time I like to relax, drink some beer, and keep low-key. Iím not the kind of guy that dresses up fancy in collared shirts and expensive jeans with frosted-tips in my hair and fancy colognes. I do not spend my time out on the town ďgetting female private part,Ē starting fights, or getting totally wasted (although I do occasionally get totally wasted). I do not smoke & generally I do not use any drugs, but I can be persuaded upon occasion.

About You You should probably be between the ages of 25-30. You should probably be a male because it tends to be easier that way. You should like having a dog around every once in a while. You should not be the type of person that spends a lot of time in front of a mirror listening to Fifty Cent. You should be intelligent and conscious of the world around you and afar, but you should not obsess about these issues to the point of depression. You should be critical and have a sense of humor concerning everything. You should be responsible, independent, clean, mature when needed, and considerate. You should not have drama in your life. You should be relaxed. You should be able to say ď@#!*-itĒ when necessary and move on. You should not read celebrity magazines & you should not own porno or think that watching porno with a bunch of dudes is cool.

Here are several things that may or may not express my personality to some degree: The Simpsons, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Kurt Vonnegut, zombies & zombie related literature, the color orange, secular-humanism, Hot Fuzz, Royal Tennebaums, Sufjan Stevens, TV on the Radio.

I'm looking to start a lease sometime in late July/early August. I will be heading to Pennsylvania on July 20th and will spend some time getting my girlfriend settled before coming to Philly for good. Please donít take any offense if this message seems to stereotype or exclude your type of person. I like and get along with everyone, but I canít necessarily live with everyone.

Cheers.

Happy colored marbles that are rolling in my head
I put 'em back in the jacket of the one I love
Carry that velvet sack full of pretty colored marbles
And I'll ask you for 'em back, when I'm ready and done
