If this doesn't work...I give up

I just sent out 180 resumes to Chicago-area law firms.  If I don't get at least a couple of interviews, I do not know what else to do.

umm.. I think it might be too late to apply for big firms at this point since they all have their decisions made up at this point. If your targeting smaller firms than you should be in good shape because they don't usually make up their minds until March/April when they have a better idea what their needs are.

Yeah, I was applying to firms that were anywhere from 4 to 50 people.

Reality is most of these places won't pick 1L's until they solidify their 2Ls (if any), so expect to be waiting for a while... It's worse than stalking the mailbox waiting for law school acceptance letters.

Networking generally will work better than a mail campaign.  I'm not knocking the mail campaign, but your best shot is going to be making direct contact with someone who can make an introduction for you.  Also, your 1l summer is a great time to try something different like working for the DA or city attorney, doing public interest, working for a professor, etc.  Good luck!

Good luck.  What's stange is as a college student I applied to some firms so I could get a better idea of what law school and law was all about and I had no trouble getting an internship, but as a 1L, it is much much harder.  I still haven't gotten any responses.  I don't know why this is, but its very annoying.

Where to get a list of small firms?  NALP seems to have only large firms.
