I don't think it's worth worrying about. (I'm prepared to have my "reputation" score sink even further by writing that one sentence). As far as I'm concerned, a student-run message board is not the place to worry about what people think of you- even if it is frequented by people who are well-educated.

No.  Once you make a certain number of posts, you get the ability to commend or defame other posters.  I forget how many posts it takes.

I've also noticed the abundance of negative scores. It's the law school mentality taken to the digital realm.

Somehow I've be given the ability to raise or lower the reputaton.  I don't mess with it often though. For instance I just improved Mr. McKay's rating to +1 by commending him.  Perhaps he will reciprocate. (right now I'm at -1)
