Most small and midsized firms don't start looking at hiring needs for the summer until sometime in the spring.  I say around February or March you should send your resume and everything again.

call them. ask if they received your stuff. if they did, ask if you can schedule an interview. if they didn't, send them your stuff again.

I might have been a bit over zealous in applying to a number of law firms, so I need some advice on pending applications. I knew that my chances at getting a job at a BIGLAW firm was slim to none. So around Sept. 10-20th I sent a large number of cover letters and resumes to some medium to small law firms around my area. Now I received a few rejection letters from firms that didn't want me or didn't have a summer program but there are still a couple of letters I am waiting on.

My question is what should I do regarding these pending law firms? I know that 6 months is the standard holding period that firms keep an applicant's resume on file, but these are not large sophisticated law firms. I'm still waiting on a response from my career services but I was wondering if anyone else had similar experiences. Thanks.

depends on if youre a 1L or a 2L.  if youre a 1L i would *guess* that maybe they trashed them because the ABA rules dont allow 1L's to send that stuff until Nov 1st.  if you're a 2L follow Jacy's advice

This is only true for NALP firms, and most small and many mid-sized firms aren't a part of NALP.

if you send your stuff again, and they were considering you, thats gonna look bad.  The phone is your friend.  Don't listen to that schmuck who thought all firms were part of the NALP.
