It'd be nice to stay in Austin for 1L.  That way I wouldnt have the stress of relocating that summer and I could possibly take a summer class, research for a prof, etc.  For my 2L and beyond, I'll probably relocate.

I've already got my 1L lined up. I will be in Houston, which is convenient because I can house-sit for my parents i.e. not move anything

I won't be dead set on staying in Austin for the summers.  If I go somewhere else for the summer, though, my family will still be staying in Austin.  I'll end up missing them if I go somewhere else.

On the other hand, I like the idea of going to a big city for my first summer.  It would let me check out if I would seriously consider taking my family to some place like Chicago, New York, or Philadelphia without wasting the precious 2L summer from which people are supposed to get their first job offer.  That way if I don't like it, I can concentrate more on the Austin/Dallas/Houston area for my 2L.
