Textbook question

I'm trying to get my finances in line and am trying to figure out what textbooks will cost.  I'm guessing 1100 per year, but what I'm wondering is if it's a good idea to buy used or new books.  The reason I'm asking is because I heard that it's a good idea to buy the big textbooks new so as to avoid the writing and highlighting of past students.  Of course, you can save a few bucks by buying used.

What do you think?

PS - I was at the Harrisburg bookstore the other day and the guy said that textbooks will be available in about 2-3 weeks...I don't know about DE though.

Depends on if you buy everything on the prof's list or just what is needed. I buy the required text that first assignments are drawn from, then go to class to find out what books the rof will actually use. Typically, a prof will list 5 or 6 books on his list, but only use 1 sometimes 2 in class.

If you buy everything, you'll spend around 700-800 dollars. If you buy only what is really needed, you can get away with spending 300-400.
