Social Life?
« on: April 26, 2006, 11:30:26 PM »
Who has one in their first year? Who doesn't? If you do, how do you manage your time. Thanks.

what is your definition of a "social life"? i think that's the most important question to ask before answering your question.

If, by social life, you mean "I can go out one night during the week, and maybe out to dinner/breakfast another night, and can watch a little TV," then yes; but it's disrupted/ends when writing assignments are due and for finals.

If you mean, "I can go out like college (3-4 nights a week, get trashed each night), watch some movie, watch some TV, play some games," then probably not.  You could, but I wouldn't start hoping for deans list anytime soon.

The important thing here is that you should be willing to go out for breakfast at night.

 :D :D

I'm a wuss, and don't have the stamina for that (thought I sometimes wish I did).  I usually end up splitting my meals up into 2 outings.

I plan on cutting out all TV watching, movies, lounging around, games. When I am not at class during the week I will be studying all day and probably until I go to sleep. I do expect to be able to go out during the weekends, relax, and enjoy myself.

You need to relax during the week too. Go to the gym, get some coffee with friends, etc.

Don't "plan" on anything. Starting law school you think you have the stamina to last all year. After your first writing assignment, you'll feel like keeling over. Definitely make time for relaxing and stuff, but don't FORCE yourself, or you will burnout too quickly.

Yeah that plan will last about 2 days. You need time to relax. Now that my first year is almost over, I can definately say that the ridiculous study time that people talk about is a joke. (except around finals...)

Don't get me wrong, Lawschool demands a lot of your time, but it doesn't demand all of your time. You can still hang out and watch T.V. during the week as long as you get your work done. You can even go out and hang out on the weekend as long as you don't have a legal writing paper due or have finals soon.

Basically if you treat lawschool as a job, then you'll be fine, and you can have a life too. Treat it as a sentence, and you'll end up burning yourself out.

realistically i have 3 hours out of the day that i can designate to non-law school activities

generally speaking i use that time for eating, gym, chronic masturbation, etc.

you get the general idea

1L is a busy time no matter how you cut it

bring on 2L - i'm on EASY street now :)
