Incoming 1L trying to buy books before classes

I am new to the law school procedure..do professors typically give their book lists to the bookstores in enough time to order books from half.com.  I could never use half.com to buy books in undergrad but I have fallen in love with this method of buying books while working on my Masters..

Typically, you don't even know who your professors are or what section you are in until shortly before (or maybe the day of) orientation.  The book lists are typically kept secret as well, because the university bookstore hates competition.  You could always buy the books from the bookstore, order on half.com, and then return the expensive ones when they come in, I guess.

If you don't get the list in time, the bookstore will probably let you return stuff for the first week or two of the semester.  So just buy the books there, keep them pristine, and return them when you get the stuff from half.com.

Great...Thanks for the advice.  I used to work at the bookstore while in undergrad and I do remember being allowed to do refunds on books if in great condition and with a reciept!!

Make sure that you check what the refund policy is for that particular bookstore. My bookstore in undergrad didn't allow returns unless you showed a slip that you dropped the class w/in x days from the start of the semester.
