Does anyone know if there is a way to get microsoft word to make one of those little statute symbols (the thing that looks like the letter “s” stacked on top of itself)? Some sort of law-specific plug-in or something?

just go to symbols page in word...and then create a quick key.

The symbol stands for "section" not "statute"

I don't know how computer savvy you are so, go to the top tool bar and click insert, then go to symbols, scroll down for the section symbol and highlight, then select shortcut, and create a short cut so you won't have to keep doing that.  My short cut is Alt + s, so when I hold down the Alt key and type s, the section symbol is automatically inserted.

I also did a delta for defendant, and a pi for plaintiff.  Lots of fun with symbols.

Thanks for all the info. Despite using this program all throughout undergrad, I had no idea how to do any of this stuff. Apparently there is a whole world of symbols out there for me to exploit.

And yes, “§” does mean section not statute. I am obviously retarded

"Alt" + "21"

i.e.; hold "alt" key down and type "2" and "1" consecutively on the calculator part of your keyboard.

(Make sure "numbers lock" is on.)
