Good LSAT, Bad GPA

Good LSAT, Bad GPA
« on: June 27, 2005, 10:48:08 AM »
So let's say I have a good LSAT, 164, but a bad undergrad GPA, 2.5

Let's also say that I am currently in an excellent part time MBA program with a 3.8 GPA.

Add to the mix the fact that I graduated undergrad in 2000.

What are my chances of getting into any sort of decent Law School?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I go to a tier 1 school.  A guy in my class had an undergrad GPA of around 2.3.  I don't know his LSAT, but I'd guess it wasn't higher than yours.  He has a full scholarship.  It's possible...

I think it really all depends on what YOU consider a "decent" law school.

There are those who think anything below T14 isn't worth the time and money, and there are those who are perfectly happy to go to a second or third tier school with good local prospects...  It just depends on your perspective.

You will definitely get in somewhere.  Applications seem to be a gamble no matter what your numbers.  Also, I think it's worth noting that the people who post on these boards (if everyone is telling the truth) don't seem to be representative of the application pool at large.  All is not lost if you don't have a 4.0/180!

Unfortunately, graduate GPA doesn't seem to count for a whole lot.

That said, in my esteemed opinion if you send out enough applications you'll probably get in to a mid to lower T1.  If not, definitely a respectable T2.   :D

Good luck with the application process!

TAS-

Thanks-, I did not mean it as "a long time ago", I just know that the farther you get from your undergrad years, the less weight the GPA carries.

I think you have a good chance.

I had a 2.97 UGPA, graduated in 1999. And LSAT 164.  I was accepted to Tier 1 schools (not top 10 though), and I got a scholarship to a tier 2 school.

No harm in trying.

I have similar numbers (2.5/167) and was admitted to several T1 schools and even a T25. I am guessing the 164 should get you into some T2s and maybe even some T1s.
