Transfer to Lower Ranked School?
« on: March 15, 2005, 05:23:29 PM »
I am attending 1st tier law school located in the South but have decided that I want to move back to NE once I graduate. I am in the top 1/3 of my class but I figure it will be hard to break into the job market in NE with all the regional law schools in the area. Is it better to stay at the school I am currently attending and try and spend my summers working up North or transfer to a school that is located in NE even if it is ranked lower (2nd tier) than my current school?

Stay where you are. The benefits of a tier-1 brand name education is more important than the regional networking benefit. Lots of law students return home to practice law.

Also, don't think because you're moving "down" that a transfer is a slam-dunk. Successful transfer applicants tend to be very highly ranked in their class.
