Relax.

You don't think reading through one of the courses before class starts would get a good jump on things?

Are the tests based more on the book or the in-class notes?

It all depends on the school, the prof and so on.

You'll end up rereading it anyway.

Keep in mind what works well will vary by person.

I read a couple of books about law school, but no serious reading needed.  Try Law School Confidential and the like.

For anyone who did prepare before school starts, do you think it helped?

Jeffjoe and MSA, would you think it beneficial to get the course outlines from someone and read up a little during the month before school starts to familiarized with the terms and material?

I just looked it up on amazon, looks like a good book. There's a deal if I get it with "Acing your first year of law school", I may get that too.

I read OneL a couple of weeks ago and thought that was an interesting read, although it was more of a fun read than anything else.

Planet Law School is extremely negative and presents a story of deception on the part of law schools and law professors.    A large part of the book is devoted to telling you why you should be reading the book.

Some people swear by it.  I found it useless for me, but I do not go to a typical law school.

The main benefit people seem to get is the list of 'primers' in the law.  PLS suggests that law school will not teach you the law and you should learn the black letter law by reading a series of suggested books over a three month period.

There are a number of longer discussions of PLS on the pre-law side of this site.
