Let's do like other countries and pass a law requiring all eligible persons to register and vote.

Personally I think only those who WANT to vote and CARE about the election SHOULD vote. I mean, do we really need more UNINFORMED people voting in this country?

are you suggesting that uninformed people don't vote now?

How would you enforce it?  I mean, I think the same thing would happen like what happens now to jury notices, people who don't care just toss them in the trash and the gov doesn't fine us or do anything.  Actually, the funny thing is, they stopped sending them to me.

I believe what I said was "MORE UNINFORMED people voting".

People who don't care don't vote.  What I think we should do is teach more American History and Government in school.  Then make every graduating high school kid take the same test that people who are applying for citizenship have to take.  90% of the kids would fail the test.  Our own children don't have a clue about their country.  Then every person male or female has to serve 18 months active duty in some branch of the armed services.  Then maybe some of them would appreciate what we have in this country and take an active role in the development and furtherance of this country.

Making voting mandatory sends a message, that's all it does.  And the message seems to work in those countries where it is mandatory.

Yes, it sends a message that the people who passed such a law were idiots. The law would then guarantee that the people serving after its passage would be idiots.

I am not sure I see the point. Like Dicta said, that would like increase the number of votes that lack any forethought. If you have to force someone to vote, and they do not really care, than that takes away from the people that do care.
I would think that would trump any reason that your might suggest for having such a law.... but you never gave a reason. Why would you suggest it is a good idea to have a law that requires people vote?
