Where have all the flowers gone?

I grew up in the 60's and 70's.  Our generation grew up with idea that we could change the world for the good and with a dream of a peaceful world in the future.

What happened to the dream of peace?

What happened to the dream of peace?

The dream died when all of the freaks woke up, smelled the coffee (or was it each other, they hadn't really been showering all that often) and got jobs.  Some would call this selling out.  Others would call it the cold splash of water on your face in the morning that points out the craziness of youth.

There is no peace and will be none in this world.  The same human drives that take us to new levels of achievement are the same ones that steer us into the depths of the fog of war.  Even Jesus said "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."  Matt. 10 vs. 34  Grow up Jeffjoe.  The times they are a changing.

Cynicism like this is what ensures war will continue.

Saying the world is harsh and people will fight anyway is a self-fulfilling prohecy.

I can't remember who said it, or even the exact quote... but,
"so long as there are 18 year old boys to fight a war, there will always be war."

Really though, until people change their thoughts of superiority (race, religion, social economics, etc), there will be war.

This is why I adopt Al Franken's theory of fighting war.  Fill our military with senior citizens.  We will definately have the edge in experience and we won't be killing a bunch of kids who have more potential/time to advance society.  [/sarcasm]

I am a realist and know that war is all but inevitiable.

What upsets me is that we seem to given up entirely on the idea of peace.  It's not even recognized as a long term goal anymore.

Maybe we will give up our idea of peace, until history can prove otherwise.
