SMU Law Starter Thread

The school website should have most of the books listed under first day assignments. Go to the homepage, click on student affairs, then courses and information.  They should be listed by class. Or, you can do what I do and just go to the bookstore and find your course names and numbers and write down all of the required textbooks. Its bold, but it works.

I'm considering SMU for next year.  I've heard from some that it can be "clicky" as most people come from Dallas and nearby.  Being from out-of-state (but not too far- AR), I was just wondering how easy it is to meet new people and what kind of opportunities SMU has for getting together and meeting people?

Well I just moved to Dallas and won't know anyone at SMU so I'll give you a first hand account in the next week

What did you think of orientation and the first day of classes? The students seem really nice, but cliches will definitely be formed (if not already). The 2Ls in my section said all of our professors are great but to keep an eye out for Dyson (he is a great lecturer but is a professor who has to be right and you must learn his brand of the law aka commercial outlines are worthless in his class ). Well enough procrastinating....I need to read Torts and Civ Pro

I thought orientation wasn't so bad, especially the first day. Then again, who can complain about all that free alcohol ! The second day seemed to drag for me though, it seemed much longer than the first, and I didn't even stick around for Hamburger Man. The people I have met so far seem pretty cool, which is nice and defintely makes the transition much easier. So far I've enjoyed the classes, Forrester and Palacios seem like great profs! We'll have to see about Dyson, I'm sure he will be quite interesting. I'm not looking forward to being on campus ALL DAY LONG tomorrow, 8:30-3:15, are you kidding?!?! I'm about to read my Civ Pro as well, and finish up the paper I've been procrastinating on all these weeks . If you see me tomorrow come up and introuduce yourself!

So how is everyone holding up? I am getting worried and overwhelmed with all this studying. Looking from the outside, I know the professors are being nice and they are taking it slow, but my brain is fried. I don't know what I am going to do when things "pick up."

It looks like Dorsoneo is the "scary" class. He is like the god of civ pro in Texas and I think he has a problem understanding why we don't understand the law the way he does. I haven't seen you class but I barely have the time to type let alone look around . Hope you're adjusting better than me.

Well I was called on in Dorsaneo's on the first day, so I'm glad I got that all over with. I'm not sure I have seen you in class either. I'm in the back or middle of the room usually, except for Torts when I sit in the front with my "firm" the Legal Eagles. I enjoy all of the classes so far, but it is a ton of reading. Maybe I'll see you soon, hang in there!

Hey guys!  I hope everything is going good at SMU.  I am applying to SMU for fall 2006 and I was wondering what your thoughts and impressions were so far.  Any words of advice for my application?  I am sending it in the next two weeks. 

Is it better than when you started?  It sounded like it was kinda overwhelming at first.  Is it still?
