We had a discussion on this topic in class and I was just curious what your responses to this would be.
What is your opinion on the appointment of a US Supreme Court Justice who would not be trained in law? Would it work? Would it be beneficial? Why did the Framers allow for the appointment?

I slept through a discussion on this the other day. IMHO, I think the political appointments exist for the purpose of balancing the hard core legal theory with public policy which can be better represented by the political appointees.
