debt collection agencies

had heard that if a collection agency is triing to collect and I send them $5 a month, if they refuse the payment that they won't be able to take any further legal action and I won't have to pay anymore. anybody know more about this? If so please post case #'s so I can research further

I've heard that too and it may be so in some states but not all.

It isn't in FDCPA so if it is anywhere it is probably in U.C.C. law which can vary a bit from state to state.
