Whatever laptop you choose make sure it has a floppy disc drive AND a CD-RW (or a swappable bay). Samford requires exams to be saved onto floppy discs, and some profs prefer CD-RWs. Wish I had known this before........but most laptops have a 30-day "trial" period where you can swap them out!

Not really sure if swappable is a word but you get the gist....

Because we have to get a floppy drive I decided to go with an external USB floppy drive. They can be found for under $50 and it won't be soaking up heat when you don't need it, which will probably only be around exam time.

David you are not alone! I have the same sched., except Kleinberg for LLR.
Guess they stuck all of the Floridians in one section. ;)

Fantastic! Where in Florida are you from?

Dax, I think I can speak for everyone that the pre-orientation party should still be a go. Thanks for being so generous with your new pad! Good thing you're a little far from my place, else we might blow off too much work and play guitar instead. ;)

Hey, where's your Devil Ray spirit? (which I suppose is arguably St. Pete - not Tampa)

I'm from Pensacola. Say a prayer for us this weekend.

just get an external USB floppy drive off ebay or newegg.com

also get a USB memory key thingy...

I got the Dell 6000 with +3 year full at home service an accidental damage care for 1200.00. I bought mine as a student through my school and saved 10% on top of the already 12% discount you get when you get the extended warranty. They also were having a 30% off sale at the time so I got a steal.

The dell deluxe leather bag is really nice too...

And dax- don't worry about batter life really, you can get the 9cell for extended life or you can just plug it in like most people will do. Their AC adapter is cool--you can wind it up so you don't have cords dangling all over the place.

You guys have fun at samford--I was Waitlisted their last year (would have entered in Fall 2004) and sort of forgot to pursue them and ended up just being dropped off the WL.
