actually, it is a word.  according to the fine people with merriam-webster online: 

"The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead."

but yeah, drives me nuts when otherwise intelligent people use it.  *shudder*

I have an idea for those of you with indoor cats.

First, tear the rejection letter and put it in a plastic bag.
Then, scoop the poopy contents of the litter box into said bag.

I tried this experiment and found it works really well.

For my 3 rejections so far I've been indulging myself in a few beers or glasses of wine and used the letter as a coaster.

hang it on the wall.  so that one day, when i'm a hot shot, or marry a hot shot, or something, i can mail a copy back to the school, along with a copy of the fat donation check i'm giving the school i matriculated into.

That is precisely my plan.

It's funny, I had a friend (who majored in English at ND) get chewed out by a judge for using the word irregardless in court.  It is one of his pet peeves.  The moral of the story - it may be a word, but dont use it in court.

I finally get my first - and hopefully last - rejection letter yesterday.  There's a certain dignity to geting rejected by Yale.. maybe I'll frame it and put it next to my HLS diploma.  Right now its still sitting on my dining room table.
