St. John's or Chicago-Kent
« on: March 21, 2005, 08:43:59 PM »
I am torn.  Each has programs that match my interests and both offered the same amount in scholarships.  St. John's needs to know by April 1 and I am really starting to wonder if I will hear that I am accpeted to any of my pending schools.  Any advice?

77 v. 56

You choose!

Money makes the world go around,
the world go around, the world go around,
Money makes the world go around,
it makes the world go round.

A mark, a yen, a buck or a pound,
a buck or a pound, a buck or a pound,
Is all that makes the world go around,
that clinking clanking sound,
Can make the world go round.

If you happen to be rich, and you feel like a night's entertainment,
You can pay for a gay escapade.
If you happen to be rich, and alone and you need a companion,
You can ring ting-a-ling for the maid.
If you happen to be rich and you find you are left by your lover,
Tho you moan and you groan quite a lot,
You can take it on the chin,
call a cab and begin to recover on your fourteen carat yacht.

Money makes the world go around,
the world go around, the world go around,
Money makes the world go around,
of that we both are sure.
(Raspberry) On being poor.

When you haven't any coal in the stove and you freeze in the winter
And you curse to the wind at your fate.
When you haven't any shoes on your feet and your coat's thin as paper
And you look thirty pounds underweight,
When you go to get a word of advice from the fat little pastor,
he will tell you to love evermore.
But when hunger comes to rap, rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat, at the window
See how love flies out the door.

For money makes the world go around, the world go around,
the world go around.
Money makes the world go around,
the clinking, clanking sound
of Money, money, money, money,
Money, money, money, money,
Get a little, get a little,
Money, money, money, money,
Mark, a yen, a buck or a pound,
That clinking, clanking clunking sound
is all that makes the world go round,
It makes the world go round.

Forget about rankings.  Both are great schools.  Decide whether you want to be in Chicago or New York.

New York is more expensive.  Chicago is colder.  Both are fun places to live though.  You'll get a great job out of both schools if you do well.  You'll even have about an equal chance at BIGLAW out of both if you're top ten or fifteen percent.

I have heard that Kent tends to be a little more liberal and St.Johns tends to be a bit more conservative (catholic conservatism).

But the real choice really is NYC or Chicago I think.

I wish there was a way to delete this thread because it really is not necessary anymore.  To answer some of the comments, St. John's and Kent both offered me the same scholarship amount (except St. John's had it renewable based on class rank while Kent pegged it to my GPA).  I also am not necessarily interested in going into BIGLAW.  I have had relatives go that path only to burn out after making partner because it just took so much out of them.  If I have a family after Law School, I will want to spend time with them.  For the higher salary you make in BIGLAW, you have to work an exponential increase in hours.  A boss of mine once calculated that her collegaue who she graduated Law School with, was making the equivalent of like $10 per hour out of Law School at BIGLAW because of all the hours worked.  In the end, the deciding factor was the fact that I am from New York and the contacts I have built up are there and it was not worth risking that for a school on the same level as St. John's

New York is much better than Chicago, all other issues taken into account!
