It is undeniably certain:

Harvard, Columbia, Chicago are the most competitive of the T-14's.

Yale, Stanford, UVA, Boalt & Penn are the least competitive.

This much is obvious.  This is the most clear ranking

I had to laugh my ass off with this! Harvard, Columbia, Chicago, Yale, Stanford, UVA, etc are the LEAST competitive schools in America. Actually they don't have any grading curve at all! Don't be stupid, once you get in there, they do not chanllenge you, you get a pass!

Let's have the fun of Yale and Harvard weenies, now!

Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh
Over the fields we go
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring
making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight
Jingle bells
jingle bells
jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank
And we
we got upsot
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
the story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh
He laughed as there
I sprawling lie
But quickly drove away
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

Most people have a mental break down in law school, not before.

jestofthematter, first off, lemme say your joke on the Median Salary (Pubs. v. Privs. Law Schools) thread made me laugh all day long!

Exactly! As far as "Yale/Harvard weenies" are concerned, I have to disagree with you (JOTM): if those schools are not as competitive as 3d and 4th tiered ones, that is because they have admitted highly-achieving students, that is students with high GPAs and high LSAT scores (they do not need to be challenged again, they've already proved themselves to be good ones -- it is in this regard that we are accustomed to think of these schools as being highly "competitive", i.e., to get into, and that does not extend to being "competitive" once students are in there). It stands to reason that they will do well on law school, ass well. There is a perfect correlation between the law school GPA and the two-above mentioned indicia.

Of the top law schools, the most competitive student bodies are:

Top 14:
1) Harvard (Hard Core Grading System/Rigid Numberical GPA/Strict Class Rankings)
2) Columbia
3) Chicago
4) Northwestern
5) NYU
6) Georgetown
7) Cornell
8) Duke
9) Michigan
10) UVA (relaxed enviornment)
11) Penn (grades/ no GPA/ no class rank)
12) Stanford (relaxed)
13) Yale (no grades/ no class rank)
14) Boalt (no grades/ no class rank)

Where did this list come from? Is NU really that competitive?

NU has a very generous curve, and no class rank.  On top of that OCI is lottery based (don't know how the rest of the T14 do it but the recruiter is not even supposed to ask for a transcript until the end of your interview and you're not allowed to put GPA on your resume).  It is definitely not a competitive cutthroat place, I think it's incredibly laid back, and as far as I know GULC should be high on that list.

hey guys- Why can't we all just get along? I mean, this thread is totally anxiety-producing, dont you agree? It seems to me you ought to just go to whatever law school you want and do your best and that's that. Why does everyone have to be so f$#%ing psycho? It sounds like the vast majority of people here dont even agree on curves and which schools are harder or really on anything, so can't you all just live with the fact that maybe you're not going to know how hard law school is until you get there and actually try? My advice is that if you are so freaking nervous about not getting good grades and not doing well and competition and what-not, perhaps A) you need to get some self-esteem B) you ought to re-consider going to law school or C)go to a law school where the majority of students have lower LSATs and GPAs than you... Maybe I sound naive to some of you, but many of you sound overly obsessive to me...Chill out

virtually any non T-14 school is more competitive than a T-14 school. The worst are probably schools that live in the shadow of T-14's like cardozo, fordham, hastings, GMU etc. You can get a biglaw job from these places but you have to work hard to do it...hence everyone works hard.

Very true!

SO TRUE!  A lot of Hastings kids try to transfer to Boalt and they're psycho in my experience.  The also have an enormous inferiority complex.
