Free Plane Tickets*
« on: March 14, 2005, 06:52:23 PM »

Has anyone gotten any free money to go visit schools they were accepted too?

I heard that Boalt and Cardozo do this.

I'm just curious what other schools have this offer.  Also, are there people going to use this "free money" but not really want to attend the school, but rather just take a free trip?

I got an offer from some school in DC (GW??).  I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look.  But the offer was that they would reimburse my travel expenses **IF** I enrolled in the fall.

oh shady, shady.

then that's not really a "free trip" now is it--there's a tradeoff involved.

Houston, Seattle, McGeorge, Hamline and Ohio Northern (and Quinnipiac? I can't remember) all offered. I'm close enough to the other schools that they wouldn't need to make the offer. Hamline's offer was most generous.

wow i would go just to see different parts of the country.

you should go, catch a red eye, play around for a day, get back on the plane and go home!

funness ensues.

I'm sure they'll only give you the $$$ for the trip *after* you sit thorugh the admitted student day...he, he reminds me of those rip off time share things where they'll fly you down to some swamp in Florida and pay for your stay but you have to sit though 6 hrs a day of some guy showing you slides and trying to hawk you a worthless piece of property that's "the future sight" of a fabulous hotel.  i.e., "we'll fly you to beautiful Hamline law school but you're got to sit through 17 straight hrs of braining washing as we taunt you and try to make you sign a committment letter on the spot....

Case offers to reimburse travel expenses up to $200.  Not nearly enough to cover a flight from either coast, let alone a night in a hotel, but still a nice gesture.
Deposit down: Case Western
Waitlist....Ugh: W&M, Hastings (IN!!!! Whooo!)

Cornell called me up and offered a free ticket, but for one weekend only, and not a listed admitted student day. Of course I accepted.

I suspect they called up people who didn't already sign up for the preview weekends.

At least the Mall of America is just a short bus ride away. :-)
