In at a tier 1, Waitlisted at a tier 4?

I just received a waitlist letter from Gonzaga yesterday.  Yet I have been accepted to Pitt, a tier 1.  What gives?  Not that I care too much, but I thought this was kind of odd.  Anyone else run into any admission anomolies such as this?

Well, my story is not quite as drastic as a tier 1/tier 4 discrepancy, but I got deferred at Barry and given a conditional acceptance to Appalachian, which are both unaccredited.  Meanwhile I have gotten in to a tier 3 and a couple tier 4s.

I think it all comes down to this:

Admissions is a crap shoot.

Aren't both of those schools provisionally accredited, not unaccredited?

Just a guess, but if your numbers are "too good" for a school, they probably know that they're your back-up and don't want to bother w/ sending an acceptance that will just be withdrawn at a later time.

They are provisionally accredited, sorry.  But still...  

Maybe I was just naive when I started applying, but I was absolutely sure that my 146 was going to get me nowhere...and then I saw those schools and though I had a shot.  I still felt as if it was a small shot, but I thought that my GPA would compensate at these schools.  

Maybe they didn't think I would attend, that was one of the things I thought about when I got the letters.  I didn't want to seem snobbish and say that it was the reason.  Because at the end of the day I still have a 146 and absolutely no right to feel better than anything.

Mine's not quite that bad, but close.  I got in at W&L and waitlisted at Stetson.

In at UNC, waitlisted at DePaul.  Shocked at neither, surprised at both. Offered money at a tier two, full scholarship to T4, then nothing from a tier 3. As said earlier, admissions is a crapshoot; there doesn't seem to be too much rhyme or reason.
