need advice please
« on: March 04, 2005, 02:34:34 PM »
Since I'm the 145,673'th person to ask this type of question, I'l try to make it simple:

Taking aside the fact that different schools are good for different things...
Which would you rather graduate from?

U Pittsburgh
Northeastern
Villanova
U Maryland?

thanks for the input?

Unfortunately I haven't applied to any of those schools..but from what i've heard, Northeastern has a good repuation but the only problem is that because of their no-grade policy, it may be harder to get a job outside of Boston-area.
Pittsburgh has a pretty good ranking too.  I don't know anything about u of maryland, but I personally would choose pittsburgh.

Depends on where I wanted to practice:
Maryland: Univ of Maryland
Boston: Northeastern
etc.

Because I don't care where I end up I think I can give you a pretty objective ranking:

Maryland
Pitt
Northeastern
Villanova

Maryland is thie highest ranked, the cheapest, and only has to compete with the Univ of Baltimore in Maryland. (I believe that is all correct)

Pitt is one of the most expensive public LS there are, that being said it is still ranked higher and is cheaper than Nova or Northeastern.

Villanova and Northeastern is kind of a toss up. Both are expensive, both have better schools to compete with (Penn, Temple), (BU,BC).

Hope this helps.

well,

with pitt i'd be going In-State, which makes it quite a bit cheaper. I don't know how much if any $ I will get there. NE offered $8500, which I think is pretty standard, and it brings the cost closer to being in line with Pitt in-state (without $)

I don't even know if U Maryland will even accept me..

My biggest question as of todya (I guess) is whether to go to a huge market (Boston) through a lower school or to a smaller market through the best school there (Pittsburgh). Also, as muhc as I like the idea of NE's grading policy, the lack of grades/rank I feel may hurt be down the line when I'm looking for work..

Pitt if I recall is like 18k in state, very expensive for a public school. If it was me I'd take Pitt over NE. But as we all know it depends on where you want to work. Your prospects will probably be about equal top of the class at NE or Pitt.

Good luck.
