I know that any school out side the top 14-17 range is not truly national.  UNC would fit that bill, but would they be extremely limited by self selection because so many of their students are already NC residents?  It seems their overall repuation on a national level is solid, but few grads leave that area.

Also, how is housing in the area, do most people stay in Chapel Hill, or Raleigh-Durham?

Not sure if this helps but...they gave us an info sheet (don't have it in front of me b/c im at work) But it said something to the affect of most stay in NC to work....But a good # do not... they have employment recruiters from all over the country who want UNC students. Supposedly recruiters from cities such as Los Angeles, Wash DC, Tampa, New York etc.
I think that although many do stay in NC, it is still well recognized on the national level...
As for housing, our law school tour guide said most live near by on the free public transportation routes, or in nearby Carrboro neighborhood. She mentioned Meadowmont Apartments as a good place for law students (kinda expensive though)....
