Albany open house...
« on: February 22, 2005, 04:38:57 PM »
Has anyone been to an open house at Albany, or is anyone signed up to attend the open house on March 5? I am considering going, but was wondering if it is worth it.

I signed up for the visit on the 5th. I figured that if anything came up I could call and cancel, but I think it will be exciting to visit the school... even if i am not in yet.

I went to one of the open houses back in October, and thought it was a fairly valuable experience...

They split our large group up into two smaller groups, and we then pretty much proceeded to tour the entire campus. The school is fairly modest in size so it didn't take too long, but it gave us a chance to check out the classrooms, library, offices, etc. under the guidance of a 2L who was happy to answer any and all questions.

We then got a chance to attend a mock class, the "Intro to Lawyering" class I believe, and actually participate in a class discussion regarding the finer points of interpreting a particular traffic statute that the professor had selected for us. I thought this was probably the best part of the day, as you got to actually wrap your mind around what it would (hopefully, will!) be like to attend a class as a student.

We then had a chance to have some refreshments and chat with Dawn Chamberlaine, who is the Asst. Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid. She was very easy to talk to, and was willing to answer almost any question about the admissions process.

All in all, if you can go, it probably would be a helpful experience to aid you in building an assessment of what the school is all about, or at least what it seeks to be.

Good luck!
