The Atlantic Monthly is the most well-thought out, intersting, intellectual without being pretensious magazine I have ever read.  You are clearly an asshat Willy.

Don't get me wrong.  I like the Economist, but it's almost too business-y for me to read for general intellectual development.  That and its blatent Chicago School of Econ perspective.

I will say, though, that coservatives wouldn't appreciate the Atlantic's intellectual rigor reinforcing progressive POVs.

I'm a New Yorker person all the way. The writing in the New Yorker is consistently better (some of the Atlantic articles, while good with their facts and analysis, lack the stylistic flair of the New Yorker) and their post-9/11 neo-conservativism really pissed me off (although the magazine is definitely backtracking post-Iraq war). Plus, I find the Atlantic Monthly to be EXTRAORDINARILY pretentious in a wealthy, Boston brahmin sort of way.

I subscribe to the Atlantic.  I read the Economist in the library, where it's free.

I used to subscribe to the Economist, until my student subscription rate expired. Now I read it at barnes and noble (free). Still subscribe to Foreign Affairs though.
