I'm resurrecting this thread, setting the consensus over/under at 4.5, and taking the over.

Waitlists count at .5. Who wants to take me on??

Ah this was a great thread.  But a WL is nothing.  It only counts if you get in.

Also, how did you go complete at Michigan so fast?  They said it takes about 5 weeks from when they request your report to being complete.

I don't know - they requested my report 1/25 and I got the snail mail letter yesterday, dated 2/7. All my stuff was together before I applied, but that is quick. Their turnaround time must be quicker now.

Waitlist sucks, but its much better than a ding. I also want to avoid the "does it count" argument up front.

agree that WL shouldn't count.  if it does, the score can't change with the ultimate decision.  but if you think about it, if you get WLed but then accepted, all that matters is that you were accepted, so that should count as 1.  i see how a WL-->rejection should kinda count as 0.5, but the end result is 0.

if you want a faster result though, it'll have to be 0.5 otherwise we'll have to wait until august.

but on the other hand, the whole point of setting a line at 0.5 is so you don't have pushes.  that's the biggest point so far.  so it's official:  i don't think WL should count.

regarding the below post, i got a 2 on the river  ;) :

then i tried to figure out what i have in the hole against all my other schools.  i had a pair of aces to USC's 7-2.  but i think i have a 7-2 to yale's pair of aces.

No, you're wrong.  You have K-K to Yale's A-A.  You are starting out with a great hand, but Yale always starts with the best.  The odds are tough.  But I see a K coming on 5th Street for a win!  The only remaining question: were you all in?

no really, i have a 7-2.  i tried to bluff, so i pushed all my chips in.  yale called my bluff, but i'm hoping to get lucky.  the flop came up 2-9-J.  i still have an uphill battle.  5 cards can still help me, so i have, what, an 11-12% shot?

if a 2 or a 7 comes up on the turn or the river, i will consider myself very lucky and will spend my weekends in connecticut at foxwoods.

(edited because i realized i named the wrong casino.)

And we've officially come full circle.

Best hand of Hold 'Em you've ever played, eh Pookster?

Good points. My main concern was avoiding disputes and having to wait till august. I think you're right though - waitlists shouldn't count unless I ultimately get in. Any bets that depend on a WL decision will just have to wait (and that means if there is any real money on this that I can't withdraw somewhere where I am WLed... ;D)

With that change, the line stays at 4.5 and I'm still taking the over. Catch me in a paranoid mood and I will regret it, but I'm feeling good tonight.
