anybody tried to fill out the NeedAccess stuff?

anybody tried to fill out the NeedAccess stuff?
« on: January 09, 2005, 07:47:40 PM »
I tried to do it today and I just felt stupid.. Apparently you need U.S. IRS forms to fill out the financial information section and I don't know what they're talking about when they ask for "number of exemptions","itemized deductions", "AFDC/TANF", etc.. :(

Did anyone try to fill it out?  If somebody has done it already please help!  Thanx in advance..

I'm not really sure what you're talking about?  the FALSA forms or whatever?  for US schools?  If so, then as a Canadian, you don't qualify so you don't have to fill this stuff out.  But I'm really confused on the whole process as well.

nope, not the FAFSA forms..  Need Access is another form to complete for US schools if you want to apply for school grants.  Not all schools require this, but some do.  As far as I know, most T14 schools require this with a few exceptions.. (I think the ones that don't require this are NYU, Northwestern, Duke, and Boalt)  Oh, and Canadians are eligible to fill this out..

i just DLed and printed all the paper versions of this app.  i figured i'd fax it to my parents and tell them to get cracking on their taxes  :D

anyway, on www.needaccess.org, there's the "how to apply" heading.  click on that, DL the paper apps and their instructions.  you'll ultimately want to put all the info into their online app to save the $45 paper fee, but it'll be easier to fill it out on paper first.  the instructions tell you exactly where in the tax forms to look.  i imagine that'll make it a lot easier to figure out what they're talking.  i haven't taken a full look at the stuff yet, but judging by the instructions (like explaining what they mean by 1 = yes, 2 = no), it should make it much easier to follow.

Thanks pookie, but the problem is, we are Canadians so we don't have IRS forms to look at..  ;D  Of course we do have our own tax returns, so the question is how to find relevant info on our tax return forms..
