Waitlisted at top 5 schools.
« on: April 24, 2004, 07:54:53 PM »
I have been waitlisted at Yale, NYU, Columbia and Chicago. I was also waitlisted at Stanford and Michigan, but withdrew my applications there because I got into Penn and want to stay on the East Coast (except maybe if I get into Chicago).

Can anyone advise as to how the waitlists are used at these specific schools, or what additional information might help my chances (e.g. a letter saying they are my top choices, etc.)?

Any anecdotal information would also be helpful.

Incidentally, I applied to Harvard as well and have not heard a peep out of them, at all. Anyone else in a similar position?

Thanks.

Try to arrange for an interview with some Professors at your waitlisted schools. And see how it goes.

Hi,
Well from what I've been told sending in new rec's help a lot and a letter along with a new writing sample is also helpful.  I had a friend who was deferred and got in after doing that and of course a call stating your interest doesn't hurt either.
best of luck.
