i think the adcoms will laugh at you - unless you do it at Oxford or Cambridge (it is common for Americans to get second undergraduate degrees there) - or unless you do both in 4 or 5 years....


but maybe others know better...

*by the way, i do think you're underestimating the effect of a 4.0 graduate degree a bit also

If you're just going for another degree...and you don't have any particular reason such as work or whatever...personally, I think you'd look like a bit of a dilettant and wonder if you wanted to go to law school just to figure out how to spend 3 more years.

I was thinking about an easy major if, but only if, it had lots of girls.  My engineering program had 3 females out of 50.  don't adcomms appreciate honesty?

Your assumption that a graduate degree doesn't count isn't really true. It isn't that important, but it is something that they consider in the context of your entire application. If asked adcoms about this and they told me it is considered and favored in their applications. Take a look at the breakdown of the incoming class - most schools have a breakdown of graduate degrees held.

A second UG would probably do no good at all. Your time would be better spend getting some WE or a grad degree. I understand your statement about girls; my UG is in computer science and it was the same thing. The girls that were in the program were all skinny or chubby geek girls. But don't do another UG for improving law school chances!

i am presently pursuing a second undergrad degree in philosophy, post graduation in may- i am doing this in a year, while working, and it's something i am only doing for myself

spoke with former adcomm at uchicago, and she explicitly told me that once you formally graduate, there is nothing you can do to boost your undergrad gpa-

so if you've already graduated from one school, a second undergrad degree does not factor into your undergrad gpa as reported by lsac-

Hey, at least you are thinking creatively (like a lawyer); but, I don't believe a second UG would help. I'm in the same boat, I had a lack-luster UG GPA, and I partied and worked too much and didn't care about grades. Well, now I am paying for it. Since graduating in '98 I got my master's and had a 3.61, not bad, but like you said, they care about the UG GPA not the grad.

Here's my advice: Study your arse off for the LSAT, or hopefully you already took it and did well. Then go to a local school for a year and transfer out if you are really concerned about attending a particular school. If you do really well as a 1L, you can go almost anywhere.

My first degree was a double major in math/phil (gpa 3.87). I then got a 2nd bachelor's degree in comp sci (gpa 3.82).

To those posting above that a 2nd bachelor's degree would hurt you: Michigan didn't seem to hold it against me.

I think it's crazy to think it could hurt you. The usefulness of it is debatable, but it certainly won't hurt you.

And, as one who's done it, no - a 2nd bachelor's degree will have no bearing on your first undergraduate degree. Actually, in terms of the LSAC, they count your 2nd bachelor's degree as a "graduate degree".
