I received the following private message from wwrzfdsfs (obviously, a false account):

"Hi female private part!"

It appears there is a coward on this board who is unable to address others as himself and instead must hide behind an anonymous shield of his already anonymous login. Andrew, is it possible for you to detect the IP from which this message came and take whatever disciplinary actions you deem necessary against the true account holder wwrzfdsfs is masquerading for? I don't mind an honest foe on the open field of battle, but a frightened coward w/ a potty mouth sending pornographic private messages is a bit annoying.

We've had a flood of joke accounts over the past couple of days.  I hope it isn't all from that bull over at 4lawschool.  If it is, then sorry you're being singled out as one of my "troops" dta.  God, these people are pathetic.

Why, you really think people have come over from another board just to flame/troll on here? That is quite possibly the lamest thing I've ever heard.

no sense in arguing about it. i'm sure andrew can tell if the ip is unique or the same as another LSD account. Of course, i'm assuming this board has a policy against such unsolicited private messages.

IP addresses aren't static for the account.  Consider I use my account at work and home so two ip's.  If I used dial-up, I could have a different IP each time I was on.

right, but i'm (maybe unreasonably) guessing someone low-browed enough to send such a private message is not the sharpest tool in the shed and might not know that 2 accounts set up from the same PC are likely traceable, especially if he/she has a cable/DSL account with an IP that persists for a long time. If not, oh well. But might as well giver it the ol' college try.

Given the sophistication shown on this website, i'm pretty sure Andrew has secured a method of tracking IP's. That's a pretty standard feature of most web servers. But i guess we'll see for sure!

Invision power board offers a host of IP tools, and this forum system seems at least as feature rich as IPB, probably more so.
