I went to UIUC for my engineering undergrad and stayed an additional 2 years in philosophy grad school. I'm not applying to Illinois for law school mostly because of my 'been there, done that' attitude.
Illinois is a very large school in the middle of corn and soy fields. There's quite a bit to do, at least from an undergrad perspective, but its quite a distance from any large cities (Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis). If you are looking for an excellent (but oh so geologically flat) self contained college town with reasonable cost of living, UIUC is a great place. If you need/want easy urban access or need/want to be close to large bodies of water, you won't be happy.
