2-3 miles? Yeech. Please tell me there are no hills. All of the Berkeley campus was built on hills, and I had to bike there as well. Please, no hills.

I'm definetely bringing my car to Stanford .. I'm not sure how the parking and communting situation is there, though, so I wasn't too sure about using it to drive to school. If parking is not a matter of life or death, though, and is easily available, I would consider driving. Or biking, if there's no hills. But 2-3 miles? That's a lot ...

I don't remember what it was called, so this is really not helpful, but my friend lives in subsidized apartments about a mile or two down the road from the Stanford Shopping Center. They have a pool and lots of other stuff and his apartment is really nice.

Another person I know has a subsidized apartment in Mountain View (15 mins away from PA), and his apartment is HUGE, ridiculously large - a two bedroom, one bath for one person, if you can imagine. Rent is cheap, but it's far so he needs a car.

Stanford really takes care of its graduate level students, that's for sure.
