Is Gay considered an URM? Also, which schools like Gays. How much can you add to you GPA or LSAT for this?
Just wondering...

sexuality is not considered for URM, but it is a component for diversity. a number of schools look for it; Penn asks about it on the app, and Yale sends invitations to apply to some LGBT students (just to name two examples). However, there's no certain number of points you can add; it's a subjective criterion.
You can also find some information at

Yeah, I've seen that resource - thanks though... do you have the video they talk about? Any other schools you can think of off the top of your head. the LSAC site has answers to a lot of questions from those schools, but I don't see any actual meat there.

I'd also be interested if anyone can post about schools that are particularly LGBT friendly, especially in the T14.

It is probably considered a demographic that needs to be well-represented among law schools classes, but eventually adcomms will recognize that this is something that can easily be faked- and hence, abused.

I think left handed guitar players should be a URM.
Seriously, go to any Guitar Center or what not and ask to see their left handed guitars and you'll see what I mean.

As with most issues related to diversity, diversity alone isn't enough, so declaring oneself gay probably isn't enough either. The real question is whether you can relate your sexuality to your decision to go to law school, if it has any bearing on your future area of specialization, and whether you have any experiences that address the centrality of your sexuality in your life (e.g., writing a senior honors thesis, being a leader of a GLBT group, etc.)

yeah, definitely not a urm-ish factor, or everyone would self-identify through lsac.
I'm openly bisexual, but didn't disclose because my top choice is reputed for being very conservative and I really didn't want any schools to judge me on that factor.
Also, I don't think another bi girl is really going to add any diversity.
