It got me all freaked out. 

USC's invitation to apply EA was totally non binding right?

yours was EA.  some people got ED invitations, but there were fewer of those, and it seems to have gone to more borderline candidates.

   thank you!  as soon as he said his name and position, i wanted to be like, "i know what you're calling to say!  yippee!"  cuz they don't call with bad news, and the dean wouldn't call to say a file is incomplete or anything; that's what office assts are for.  oh well.
