extra notes on invitation to apply?
« on: November 10, 2004, 03:12:10 PM »
Have any of you received extra little notes on your fee waivers/invitations to apply? You know, "I really hope you'll consider applying", "you look like a great candidate, please call if you have any questions about the application process" etc...? I have a few of these and I am curious as to whether it is the norm or not... since I know that fee waivers are given mostly to up a schools selectivity percentage. Thanks everyone!

I got a handwritten note from Cardozo on an invitation to apply, that did not include a fee waiver, and I got it after I already applied.  So I say it's bull.

Yeah, I got one saying "We really love people from [my undergrad, which is close by].  I hope you'll apply!" from University of Michigan.

I'll probably throw in an app there, though I'd rather not go there.

Yeah I think Michigan does this for everyone.  I can't recall others I've received with a hand-written note.

The note I got on the Cardozo letter was clearly photocopied.

Am I the only one who hates the handwritten notes? It portrays an image of... "I meant to add this, but it's not worth the effort of printing a new copy". It seems sloppy.

I know that's not the intent-- it's actually quite flattering-- but it always has the opposite effect on me. That being said, I definitely did apply to Michigan. Michigan is a great school, even if they have virtually no classes in the field of law I want to pursue....

Those comments sound really generic, so I wouldn't take them seriously.  If it was a unique comment (i.e. they referenced a fact about you that they wouldn't have known from your LSAC info, say, if they referred to part of a conversation you had with them at a school forum), then that would definitely be a good thing.

Haven't had this (since right after the June LSAT when I got stuff inviting me to apply for Fall 2004 admission), but I did get a letter addressed to me as Buster rather than my real name!  ;)

My GULC acceptance had a hand-written note.  It made me feel oh-so-loved.  ;)
