Question about signing the envelope and making it official
« on: November 06, 2004, 04:05:46 PM »
I have a quick question that may seem asinine , I will ask for any advice or knowlesge out there anyway. My wife's recommender put her in a tight situation... She sent out the LOR's and instead of signing the back of the envelope to make it official, she just initialed them (first and last initials). Is this still considered "official" My gut says that this should still be fine and I am overreacting for her sake bt I just needed some reassurance or perhaps some evidence of others who have done this instead of actually signing with their whole signature accross the back to seal the envelope. What if the place fro the LOR says  "...along with his/her signature across the back..." Then will it still be okay, since initials seem still official to me but I don't know??? What do all of you LSD'ers think? ??? ;D

i am sure that it will be fine.  if there was no signature then there might be a problem, but to me, initials seem official.

in fact, i would be surprised if these things didn't happen more often.

initials are most likely fine, IMO.  one could argue that their signature just consists of their initials, as many people's do (e.g., my boss).

If you sent them to lsdas or the school directly I would call and verify it. Worse case scenario the person who wrote the letter will resend the 'lor' and sign it. Although initials can be official a signature is the standard.

Uh oh, I thought if the recommender mailed it themselves, there was no need for the siggy across the flap.

No need to worry.  Admissions committees aren't Nazis.  OK well maybe they are Nazis.  Sorry dude, your wife is screwed.
Just kidding, she'll be fine.
