I got my first acceptance letter!!! (Baylor)

I was just playing.  ;)I personally am grateful that they did take everything into consideration. I think that had I been single, it would have been a breeze getting 4.0/175. I could have sat in my quiet dorm room and studied and studied. Instead, I did my homework at the kitchen table with my kids. I wrote papers in the middle of the night, I worked full-time, I cleaned the house, nursed sick children, played sex-goddess to my husband (TMI?), etc. I did the absolute best that I could do and still do the things that I HAD to do, and Baylor has shown that they understand and appreciate that and that they know that my true abilities may not be reflected in the numbers. They also know I'm getting a divorce, putting my kids up for adoption, and moving on-campus once school begins. 

while that sounds like a great personal statement, i hope you didn't talk about the sex goddess stuff in too much detail in the personal statement.  or maybe you did, and that's what got you the scholarship   (totally joking, of course.  it sounds like you deserve every penny of that scholarship.)

On the ABA guide online, it says that almost 90% of students get some kind of scholarship from Baylor. It has a really small class, its alumni are very rich, and the alumni are VERY generous (I graduated from Baylor undergrad with $5K in student loans).

My boyfriend is always telling me stories about this trial attorney in his hometown (Beaumont) who went to Baylor (and who did very well for himself) and who was always donating money to charities and doing nice things for the Beaumont community....etc., etc.  He was talking about him again today and how he had some kind of exotic wood on the walls of his office (and I was just kind of ignoring him) when he said his name...Walter Umphrey.  I got to thinking....Is this the same Walter Umphrey that the new, big law building is named after?  If it is, I must assume that this man donated a lot of money to the school to have the building named after him.  I got to thinking....that is really generous!  It impresses me that so many Baylor Alumni are so willing to give back!  Dan Rather graduated from my undergrad and he doesn't do anything for the school.  We even named a building after him....and nothing!

He gave the school $33 Million and the "AKA" of the school is the Shelia and Walter Umphrey Law School. When you walk into the school, there is a path of alumni that donated $6 million plus. Even though I am here in DC, there is a strong Baylor almuni chapter here, and it is very active. If you do decide to visit Waco/Baylor, come during Feb. and get tickets to SING 2005. It's an awesome Greek talent show (largest in the country) and it personifies the Baylor experience in my eyes. We aren't a major liberal arts college but we still have culture, diversity, and a strong Southern heritage.

Spent last two years doing pediatric cancer research at a prominent institution, and both my rec letters were from docs with impressive credentials.  That helped off-set my low G.P.A.

Oh my goodness - 33 million! That is a lot of money!  Mr. Umphrey must have done extremely well for himself....and be a very generous man.   

How are the Zeta's at Baylor?  The ones I met at conventions and such always seemed a little, well, churchy....but I may be projecting.  My cousin was Pres. of Zeta at Baylor but it was probably close to ten years ago.  I want to get involved with the ZTA Alum. chapter wherever I end up.  I will have to check out that talent show, though.

I was actually thinking about the alumni giving at Baylor earlier today and thinking about the average income Baylor grads get according to USN and thinking... the math is off. Isn't it? If you consider that Baylor graduates under 150 lawyers a year, that's not a very large pool from which to draw alumni funds, but they do seem to be rolling in it, huh?

As for equal opportunity, I actually saw more Asians than blacks or Hispanics. Of course, that means I saw THREE Asians, two black students, and one Hispanic guy.  :)I think they're trying, though. I think that in their defense, a lot of minorities are put-off by the Baylor rep (WASP and dang proud of it!).

As for the whole sex-goddess thing, NO. I keep that sort of stuff private.... out of my personal statement, all over the internet!  ;)Even got a website. LOL.

OMG, Zetas are one of my favorite sororities on campus! My fraternity has had a ZTA as a sweetheart or lil' sis for the past 5 years. The girls in ZTA at Baylor are really nice, extremely outgoing, and fun to be around. I am really good friends with a lot of the members and great friends with ZTAs president last year. ZTA had a great float this year, a really good SING act last year, and a good STOMP FEST act last year as well. You will have a lot to do as an alumni as well. Off the top of my head, I know you guys handled the Susan Breast Cancer 5K walk/run, an alumni homecoming golf tourney, a couple of Foam Crushes, a lot of mixers, and Greek Treat. Come to think of it, you really remind me of our ZTA sweetheart last year. She was extremely outgoing, bubbly, and smiled all the time (she also had a ton of energy as she was a Baylor Cheerleader as well). You are going to have an awesome time at Baylor if you do come.

Just a little FYI. Baylor is the most diverse school in the BIG XII.

I was talking about the law school. As a whole, Baylor IS diverse. But I guess my point was that diversity is a 2-way atreet... you not only have to be willing to accept minority students, minority students must be willing to attend your institution. I was also bemused at the fact that in Baylor's diversity statement, in contrast to state schools like UT, NO mention of LGBT os to be found. It's a private Baptist university, they're well within their rights, but there is at least some level of discrimination there.
