this has to be one of saddest things I've heard in a long time.

grrrr, i looked, but can't find a link.  Anyways ....

After the game, during the partying on the streets, things started getting a little crazy.  I think it was the police? but not sure, started firing pellet bullets at the crowd to try and calm them down.

Anyways, one hit a girl (a student at a local university) and killed her.

I just heard this on CNN.

Yeah, it is tragic.  Reminds me of the Mardi Gras riot we had in 2001.

it wasn't even really a riot though ... people were just celebrating.  I think the police were way too aggressive.

They're talking about not showing the world series games in bars and not serving alcohol now in Boston (during the world series).

How could they not serve alcohol? Are they seriously considering cutting off all alcohol sales for (potentially) seven days? In stores as well as bars? Do you know more? I'm going to visit.

Why was the cop firing anything at all unless there was really something dangerous going on?  A bunch of drunk kids screaming slogans seems to have been the extent of the unruliness.  This kind of story bothers me.

I agree.  The worst thing I saw was a couple of people taking a street sign.

Police try to keep the peace, but sometimes they carry it too far.  Seriously, they're celebrating the end of the curse.  Let them have their fun, and for God's sake, don't shoot ANY kind of guns at them!  What are they, stray dogs or something?  I hate it when people shoot BB's at stray dogs that aren't threatening them, but this is just ridiculously infuriating.

Some heads ought to roll in that police department.  Whoever authorized this has to go.
