getting logged out? "session time out"?

I'm still really lost on this issue.  I've been exchanging notes with one the lead developers of the software that powers this board, and he can't figure it out either.  I really think it has to be a user issue, probably with IE.  (Just found a huge display issue caused by Norton.)  I can't control what happens once the code leaves the server, but I keep hoping I can figure out a fix - hard when I can't even identify the problem.  It doesn't seem to be cookies.  It doesn't seem to be php sessions.  I just don't know.

Going to try a couple more things today, but it's not looking good.

For those still having trouble.  Do you have firewalls, internet security, etc.?  What versions of IE do you have? (you can check under 'Help > About Internet Explorer')

I have IE 6, and I have the problem both with and without a firewall.

(I don't have one at home, but I'm pretty sure we have one at my office)

I get logged off on both computers, but more so at work.

I keep having this problem as well.  It happens much more frequently at home (with a simple Symantec firewall on a wireless network) than at work (wired LAN, HEAVY firewalls).  I'm using IE 6 both places.  The frequency of my posts doesn't seem to have any effect.  Also, if I close IE while logged in and then come back to the site later (e.g. next morning), I'm usually still logged in.  I don't get kicked out again until after viewing 4 or 5 threads.

But I never have this problem on my computer at home, which is a Mac running Safari.

Okay.  I'm still working on it.  I'm running some tests to isolate the problem.  It's a slow process.

Hopefully I'll have this sorted out in a couple days.  I'll post here again when I change something and we'll see how everyone is doing.

For the two of you that are helping me with this - keep pm-ing those updates.

If anyone is getting completely fed up with this, I would suggest the firefox browser.  I won't ask everyone to switch browsers though, I want IE users to be able to stay logged in.

I've had to log in at least 5 times in the last 3 hours.  Again, most often when I'm trying to post, but sometimes just looking at a different thread, I'll notice that I've been logged out.  This happens more often at work (IE 6.0) than the home computer, but we probably do have a firewall.

I've taken to copying my messages before I hit "post" just in case I get logged out in that process.

i ditto linquest.  i was about to say the same thing but saw that he wrote exactly what i was going to say about getting logged out and copy/pasting.
