getting logged out? "session time out"?

I wonder if it has anything to do with recent high traffic volume.  I didnt start having this problem until the rush of newbies began about a week ago.

On days like today when there are fewer people on I seem to have the problem less frequently although I still get timed out every once in a while.

Site seems reasonably fast today, but I'm still getting logged out for no reason every 15 minutes.

this is beginning to piss me off.  i hate signing in.

maybe it does have to do with a higher volume of traffic, though.  a few months ago i felt like it was about twenty or so hardcore members and that was it.

I'm still working on the logout problem, but thanks for continuing to post about this because I don't necessarily know whether little changes I'm making are having any effect (I only get logged out every now and then with IE, and never with Firefox).

As for site speed, there was three times the normal traffic yesterday and I suspect that slowed things down.  I'm checking into server options as well as ways to optimize what we already have.  Please start a new thread if you want to keep talking about slowness and severs.  Keep posting if you're having logout problems.

Anything else you can tell me?  Has anyone noticed any trends?  Is it consistent (ie every 15 minutes without fail)?  Does it happen if you don't post?  Does it happen after you click a certain type of link? (ie the Recent 200 link)

If I post frequently I stay logged in.

When I wake up in the morning, I am usually logged out.

I have also never been able to stay logged in permanently -- even when I choose that option on the login screen.  This was true even before the current frequent-logout trouble began.
