It's easy enough to see.  Use the third link there.  Comparing Michigan to Penn, you can see that almost the entire variation is in public service.  Or compare to UVa, you can see that the difference is made up in clerkships, government, and public service -- not unemployment or smaller firms.

clerkships and public service/public interest, I can buy, but do a lot of JDs really prefer Government jobs and business jobs over NLJ 250 jobs?
Duke is absolutely killing it in terms of employment, nonetheless. And if the newest stats are true, I'd love to see what NU's breakdown is. Are they now doing more firms than PI/clerks, or has their non-250 portion decreased significantly? If latter is the case, and with heightened attention due to their recent top 10 showing, NU might be a serious contender, not a fluke.

And yeah, seriously, I'm really worried about Michigan. Anecdotal evidence is great. Numbers aren't.

Can someone explain why on the graphs, BU places worse than BC, but on the Table, BU places better than BC?  ???

the graph is from 2005.  the table is from 2007.  which again makes me curious how northwestern increased their biglaw employment by 20% in two years.
LOL O I C! Thank you!

How big is NW's class?

It depends on exactly what kind of government jobs we're talking about.  I don't think there's any question that business jobs are often preferable, though.  McKinsey recruits heavily from law schools (at least, HLS), as do investment banks, hedge funds, etc.  There was a statistic floating around Harvard's ASD that HLS produces more CEOs than HBS does, despite being about half the size.

Well I mean Mich had good numbers to start with. Didn't NW jump like 3 spots last year?
