What was his response exactly? What was your argument? Employment data is the most important factor as far as I am concerned. Simply because it does not attend to the reality as closely as it should doesn't mean it should be dropped. I'd wager his response was similar, though I'm curious nevertheless.

botbot: Assuming we agree that the USN&WR rankings are not perfect, it makes sense to look for alternatives for what I see as two good reasons. 1) Something that's not perfect is in need of a supplement and 2) alternatives point out that they are not perfect and that somebody is trying to remedy them.

Sorry, I should have said - why are we looking at these worthless alternatives.

For a semi-reasonable answer to this question, check out what Leiter has to say about the vault rankings (April 7th entry) and his open letter to Bob Morse (US News Guru) on his blog

There is also the most recent law school rankings based on placement in BigLaw.

Also the methodology (primarily what is biglaw) would be nice.

The US News rankings suck, but they're miles above and beyond anything else out there, especially if you learn how to properly analyze them.
