Duke$$$ vs Chicago

Hey guys, I need some input, please help me.  Duke have offered me $60K, Chicago, nada.  I want to work in CA.  Should I pass the dough for the higher ranked school?  I guess I should visit Durham.  It sounds kind of dull.  What do you think?

i can pretty much assure you that you won't have any problems going back to california from chicago....everyone i know here who wanted to go back to CA got jobs in whatever market they wanted (and that includes a few people i know who were around bottom 10-20% of the class). i had several offers in silicon valley and i'm nowhere near the top of the class.

is duke giving you $60,000 per year or total? if it's $20,000 per year, i would probably do chicago. if it's $60,000 (so basically full tuition) per year, it would be a pretty tough choice.

i need to reacquaint myself with classic porn, but i don't know any current chicago students who moonlight in the sex industry. i'll be on the lookout though.

To put it in perspective, $60K is still a lot of money.

My vote is that if you want to do academia or clerkship, then Chicago would be the obvious choice.  However, if your career goal is with BigLaw in CA, graduating from Duke won't hurt you at all.
