My guess is that GW's limited placement is a self-selection issue.  Most GW folks want to work in DC or NYC and they place very well there.  That said, it looks as though they are offering you a dream shot.  I'd take it even with all the other factors in your situation.  A top 20 degree for half price is an incredible offer and who knows, you and your husband may end up falling in love with the DC area like all of my friends who have moved there.  If not, I doubt you will have trouble getting back to Boston.  On top of all that, you may get to go to school with me... a great honor I assure you. ;)

if you have law firm aspirations, gw hands down

otherwise, go to the school that costs the least (in aggregate, factoring in cost of living)

i'm somewhat curious to know how it is that you have qualified for a half tuition scholarship at gw and yet only have a 4/105 chance of being admitted to BU. i think that your "standard issue" gw law student falls within these ranges: 165-168 lsat and 3.5-3.7 gpa. generally speaking, those who receive substantial scholarships (such as yourself) are 169(+ and 3.7(+). with  numbers such as these, wouldn't you be an autoadmit at both BC and BU? are you a splitter (i know that at gw you're basically an autoadmit with a 170(+) irrespective of gpa)? anyway, just curious :)

Cosmo, if you don't get into BU (although I still think you will), take the GW offer.  Going to Northeastern over GWU is the epitome of an irrational decision.  Boston will be there when you get out of school!!

Yeah I def don't want to have any regrets!

I agree. I couldn't imagine passing up GWU with scholarship money. If I were in your situation, barring getting off the BC waitlist or getting in at BU (which you may, you only went complete on 03/10, so I'll cross my fingers for you) GWU is the best option.

And lol @ disliking your stepmom more than the in-laws.  :D

LOL that was incredibly dumb of me.  I guess I have BU on the brain.  Sorry about that...

Haha yeah I truly dislike her.  Hate is a strong word but it might work.  She showed up to my wedding dressed like a total whore and in high school when I was living there she got upset that I didn't clean before I went out for the weekend and she pulled my hair and called my Mom telling her she was kicking me out of the house.

You need to have an illustrious career in law and become really important so you can write a memoir. Because your "early years" section would be a fantastic read!   ;D

Ahhh, so much better having this all in one place!

I wish I could buck the trend here, but I agree that GW seems like the best thing (assuming you don't get in at Boston).

I know you guys aren't super thrilled to move, and to be out of Boston, but there are real upsides to getting out of your comfort zone. The perspective you will gain could be invaluable, especially if you plan on pursuing public interest. Having a broader perspective, even if yours is already pretty broad, really helps in examining the problems people can get themselves into. Imagine how much you will empathize with a client who is torn about relocating away from family in order to ensure their future economic stability!

Just my .02. Good luck with your decision!

I would write BC a letter and see what you can do. Its not impossible to land Boston Biglaw from GW, but you would much rather be at BC.
