Things are getting complicated..
« on: March 24, 2008, 01:10:31 AM »
Just got back from visiting Cardozo on Friday and was surprised by how much I liked it. I also got excited about the idea of graduating with no debt, since they offered me a full scholarship. Would I be silly to go there over GW or W&M with $$? Job prospects coming out of GW or WM still outweigh $$$$ right?

don't have the letter in front of me, but I believe I'd have to maintain a 3.2. If I dropped below a certain point, I'd retain a 75% scholarship and could get the full ride back.

3.2 could be top 1/3 watch out!

Find out what the curve is so that you can gauge how difficult/competitive it would be to maintain.  If it's too steep, might not be worth it, but generally scholarship awards are set up so that if you keep pace with how you've performed to date, you'll keep them.

Looks like it's ~top 1/2.

Class of 2008 50% =3.240
Class of 2009 50% = 3.208

Admittedly the 1L curve could be different

Thanks for the advice. I am not sure where I want to work.. I love it in DC (live there now), so leaving would definitely be a tough decision. My family is from NY though and will be moving to upstate NY soon, so long-term, New York is a possibility. I am interested in BigLaw at least for a while if that helps.

i would give a small edge to Cardozo with the fullride over GW. if you don't make top 1/3 at GW, it will be a lot harder to get biglaw and you would have a lot of debt. if you don't get biglaw from Cardozo, at least you have no debt.
