I found this interesting.

On one hand, I kind of agree with him - there are very few black partners at my firm.

On the other hand, I think it doesn't present the reality of the legal market. Mediocre white men don't get good jobs either. If anything, Howard places far better than similarly ranked (mediocre schools).

I'm not trying to agitate. I thought this was an interesting and relevant article, and wanted to hear some thoughts.

I think that there should be no room for mediocrity.  Law firms are, first and foremost, businesses.  If a Black associate brings in many clients, wins cases, and gets stuff done efficiently - thus making the firm large sums of cash - that associate will probably make partner.  If a White associate slacks off, doesn't bring in clients, and loses cases, he will NOT make partner.

People who make firm money get promoted.  People who don't, don't.
