How much money would you need at CCNMVP to turn down H or S?
« on: March 19, 2008, 01:06:40 PM »
I know a lot of people are considering scholarship offers at CCNMVP vs. full sticker price or thereabouts at Harvard and Stanford. I'm interested in hearing opinions on what kind of scholarships at non-T3 schools would convince people to go there over H or S. I didn't include Yale in the topic, because I think most people would say Yale is a special case for a number of reasons, but feel free to discuss that as well. I'd also be interested in getting opinions on whether named scholarships (like Darrow or Hamilton) factor into the question any differently than just getting money does (like the $64k, unnamed scholarship at Chicago).

Yes, you are a failure.

 :D

Seriously, for personal reasons, Stanford would win over anything else.  But I'd take, say, the Hamilton over Harvard.

At least half tuition at CCN and full tuition at MVP to even consider it.

Am I the only one who doesn't know what MVP is?

For me, Harvard at full cost > CCNMVP for free.  It's close, though.

Wow, ALL of CCNMVP would be out for HLS, regardless? Interesting.

How do people feel about multiple claims, like full tuition at one of MVP vs. half tuition at one or two of CCN vs. full price at HYS? I don't know how anyone figures this sort of thing out. I feel like having to consider the three options together might affect the decision in weird ways, like making it harder to turn down both of two high scholarship offers when it might have been easy to turn down one or the other.

I'll be the odd person out. I would go to Columbia, NYU, and UVA over Harvard or Stanford even with no money. I don't want to go back out to the west coast (even for Stanford) and I've visited Harvard and I really disliked it. I would take UVA with no money over Harvard based on quality of life (ie less stress, more collegial), which is important for me due to medical reasons (I'd rather not divulge).

This seems pretty ridiculous.  Harvard would have to give me lots of money to woo me away from Columbia.  Is there anything other than the name that makes you so strongly pro-Harvard?
